The Event
The Event

It is the winter at the start of 500AD, in the country of Dumnonia. Many things have occurred since the defeat of the Irish King Benen and his manipulative Druid Ungus.

Firstly, in the summer of 499AD Lord Wolgen and Princess Ursula were proclaimed King and Queen of Dunchad, and have since reaffirmed the alliance with Dumnonia.

Secondly, there has been increasing unrest and even riots in the towns and cities of Dumnonia. Certain groups of Christians have instigated this conflict against the Pagans. Rumours suggest that these Christians aim to rid the country of all Pagans in preparation for the second coming of Christ, which they believe will occur in 500AD.

As if this conflict between countrymen was not enough, there have been many reports that at least three armies have been massing on the borders of Dunchad and Dumnonia. These armies are thought to be under the command of the Saxon King Aelle, the Germanic King Cerdic and his son Prince Cynric.

Lord Protector Arthur has summoned his warlords to a winter war council, where he must make hasty plans to defend a fragmented and already war torn Dumnonia against what seem to be insurmountable odds.

Is Dumnonia doomed?

Event Information

A fighting orientated LRP event, based on the "Warlord Chronicles" (The Winter King, Enemy of God & Excalibur) written by Bernard Cornwall.

You are invited to play a character that has become involved in this war at the sharp end of the conflict. All players are part of a military alliance between Dumnonia and Dunchad. This alliance has been set, what seems to be, the impossible task of defending its lands against a massive Saxon invasion.

Player Comments

Some comments from players regarding previous events. Mostly taken from the Website of the Taurus.

All right, now that was some good bloody fun. And i mean this in the most literal way possible.

Playing an archer absolutely ruled, including the parts where i ran for my life because the enemy infantry was charging me and i only had a bow

Lovely system

I haven't for a moment regretted ignoring the head wound at the final battle, even if i have to get a helm for next year now. Nice work, Valerie and the Butcher!

Kim aka Morrydwen-whose-skull-is-now-held-together-by-a-helm

What to say more than : EXCELLENT !!!

Once again, there was an enthusiastic ambiance and wonderful moments of fight!!

And what about the healing of injuries !!

Thanks to you in particular Mark to organize one of the major events of each year of LARP.....Keep on going please !! You can already inscribe myself for next event!

Also thank you to all NPC's and Pc's who also made this event marvelous...special cheers for Lynden (elected best NPC of the WE), Jean-Fred (elected best costume of the players) and Sakis (elected for the best beard ! )

Indeed, the rate of dead players was very high this year but the event was also very intensive (the Sunday in particular) but what a FUN !
See you all next year and for those who goes at the Gathering, see you in three months !

Fred aka Goran (dead) aka Demnoc

Thanks for this event.

All my group - some of us (like Elowen) were in a Larp for first time - and I were charmed by the ambiance, by the npcs and by the game.

Thanks having insert us, and the backrounds, in Warbands.
We'll have a lot of "souvenirs".

Sakis aka Lord Bran of Belmount (alive...) (elected for the best beard ! )

I shaved this beard today... I don't recognize myself...

I won't be original but thank to all of you, npc, pc, ...

A wonderfull week end, lying on the ground, swimming in our blood, trying to save our last members...

Well, in a word : fantastic !

As half of the flemish delegation, I would like to say this weekend was about the most fun non-mass event I have attended in a very long time...

Thanks to all who made it possible for me to come along and enjoy this great event ! All those who organised, Vince for driving us all the way and back, Cedric for the use of his tent and all others that we shared a campfire and bottle with....
Also, as many will attest, there is one piece of universal wisdom that I have retained from warbands and will cherish forever... mostly thanks to mark, steward (twice) and one other npc.... WEAR A HELMET IN COMBAT !!!

Hopefully untill next time or at some other event !

Geert aka Wron the thrice-headsplitted (dead ) aka Willoc the scout (alive)

Well just to add my 5 cents...

Good fun, enjoyed line-combat but also scouting and skirmishing in the woods (with my spear ). Nice role-playing also.

Particularily loved the sight at the end of the final combat: almost everybody lying down on the floor, some moaning, others already dead. I wonder how we won that one!

Vince aka Octavius Scepticimus (+) aka Thomas Brennan (+)

Well, thanks to the mercenaries for the pictures they took during the event, they are a happy reminder of all the atmosphere, pleasant time, blood and gore we experienced during the week end.

And a question now: Are there any more pictures elwhere??? Please... I am surely not the only one craving for more...

Stuart aka Liam aka Nathaniel

I wanted to thanks you again, you and all the organisators, for this week-end.  It was fantastic, really.  It was my first one and I really enjoyed it.

It's a little bit frustrating to not have had the occasion to play my second character, the healer from the Hermes' cult, but anyway... my first one became more and more interesting to play so I didn't want to dye neither !

Melanie (Elowen)

What can I say ? Except that for my 1st LRP in England, it will become 1 of my greatest memory in my LRPlayer life...

When I began that kind of hobby 10 years ago, it was like this weekend in my sweetest dreams : only TI stuffs, high level of role-play, fair-play et combat !
Man ! I've got the feeling I'm just awake from a long week end of sleep...

Thanks ! And, please, put me on the list of inscriptions for next year right now !
See you soon !

Jérôme AKA Telen Brek (1st combat : dead) AKA Deneth Tenebran (1st combat : dead) AKA Halcor Tenebran (1st combat : serious wound at the head) !!!
